FLIR Launches New Store in Just 3 Months

THE CHALLENGE
FLIR Systems is the world’s largest commercial company specializing in the design and production of thermal imaging cameras, components and imaging sensors. Founded in 1978, the company makes thermal cameras and components for a wide variety of commercial and government applications. FLIR is a component of the S&P 500 index with annual revenues in excess of $1.5 billion as of 2014.
FLIR was using an old ecommerce platform provider, with limited features and very slow development. This resulted in not being able to achieve their potential and deliver initiatives put forward by its progressive team. FLIR’s biggest setback was platform agility. They wanted new features, and wanted them quickly, as their store was growing exponentially, and clients had needs that should have been easy to facilitate. Oftentimes, when requesting development updates to their preexisting eCommerce solution provider, for critical needs, requests would simply be rejected, and/or significant fees charged. Additionally, they were unable to customize their store and had to adapt to the way their provider had stores setup. FLIR needed a platform that would be adaptable and customizable, and wanted to work with a company willing to focus on their success. FLIR was looking for a partner who could help them implement a complex enterprise eCommerce migration, with extensive features and global footprint.

The Scalefast Solution

FLIR turned to Scalefast for their customizable store and quick development time. Not only was Scalefast’s platform flexible and adaptable, but Scalefast was able to implement the complex enterprise eCommerce migration and set up stores to help FLIR serve both North America and Europe at launch. Scalefast offered a multi-brand environment with modern shopping carts and checkouts for multiple websites, customer support in multiple languages, fraud protection, GDPR and tax compliance management, and a team that could navigate GTC compliance and other compliance challenges for electronic products with batteries. Scalefast implemented their new Headless eCommerce solution, seamlessly building an integration of Scalefast’s platform and cart with FLIR’s ERP, CMS, existing frontend e-store, and SSO. Additional features in this launch included subscription and recurring payment models, advanced fulfillment capabilities (selling products fulfilled by the merchant and by Scalefast in the same cart), and expert support for export-controlled products. Scalefast’s model also made them the Merchant of Record for all transactions, meaning Scalefast was now on the line for tax and local regulations, freeing up time, money, and energy for FLIR. The implementation process included daily meetings and consistent messenger exchanges with both teams to ensure FLIR’s quick turnaround goal of just three months was always on track. Additionally, Scalefast’s Team as a Service will continually assist with store operation, discount creation, investigations, Google analytics, and development of new initiatives.

Results

FLIR’s stores launched on time in just 3 months, reducing launch time by 8 months when compared to their initial platform provider. The stores are now hosted on AWS, offering a stronger than ever server and Scalefast’s expertise in AWS management. Not only do the new stores serve FLIR’s complex needs, but they also offer vastly improved user experience, with improved conversion rates. FLIR’s new and improved stores have set them up to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in operating expenses and capital expenditures. With this successful launch completed, FLIR is now looking to launch their global expansion into new territories with the help of Scalefast’s eCommerce expertise.
